Dear colleagues,

At the elections on the general assembly, which was held in connection with the Nordic Gastromeeting in TromsØ, Einar Husebye, Juhanni Sand and Henrik Sjövall was replaced by SØren Kruse -Andersen, Einar Björnsson and Markku Luostarinen in the steering committee of SAGIM. They all had to leave the steering committee due to the rules. They have all given a great contribution to the organisation, and it is the intention of the new steering committee to continue this work including the course activity. To your information the complete addresses of all the members and the substitutes appears from the enclosed list.

The most important forthcoming event is the SAGIM postgraduate course on gastrointestinal motility in Oslo on 23.-25. Marts 2000. The following course is planned to take place in Odense year 2002. We will encourage all members to make a widespread knowledge of this activity to all colleagues, which might be interested. The course will be sponsored by Janssen-Cilag, and members of the SAGIM may apply for grants to reduce travel costing.

Another important event is the scientific symposia’s at the Nordic Gastromeeting. The next meeting will be in Göteborg in June, and the organisation committee has given us the opportunity to arrange a scientific symposium at the meeting. The symposium is planned to include 1-2 guest lecturers and free papers. This event is highly dependent upon the submission of a sufficient number of abstracts on gastrointestinal motility. It is important to stress that SAGIM members, who present a paper may apply for travel grants.

A living organisation is dependent upon the responses from the members. Opinions about the ongoing work and suggestions for other activities are warmly welcomed.

There have been some problems in updating our membership list. We, therefore, kindly ask for your help. If you have changed the address, or you are aware of some members who have not received newsletters within the last year, please give us a note. Finally, we will encourage you to recruit new members.
